Veago

Food app concept

Going plant-based has many benefits including; helping reduce your carbon footprint, avoiding animal cruelty, and it allows you to eat more veggies. Vegan options have become popular over the past few years, and many have attempted to go vegan.

This project was something I created while in school as a delivery app assignment. Since graduating I have continued to develop the concept in my spare time.

User research

Why is there value in creating a vegan food app? I interviewed some friends, family, and students who are vegan or have a vegan in their life.

“When ordering from my favorite Thai Food place, they did not read the ‘special instructions portion of my order. I ended up with chicken instead of tofu and egg in pad see ew when I said to make without egg..”

— Jamie, 34

“My new girlfriend is vegan and I have no idea where to take her out to dinner. I looked online at this restaurant that I thought was vegan, but it was actually vegetarian. I would like a way to guarantee a restaurant is vegan because I can’t tell. ”

— Pat, 26

“I want to be vegan for the environment, you know? But I eat out a lot and pick up food because I am busy and can’t cook. It would be nice to have an app for vegan food!”

— Liz, 21

Veago makes eating plant-based easy. The app allows users to pick up, get delivery, or make a reservation at a plant-based or plant-friendly restaurant.

The app filters out all non-plant-based food from your favorite restaurants + it can find the substitutions at restaurants that don’t visibly state an item is vegan. In addition, users can access the full menu of restaurants so your non-vegan friends can be included. Although inclusive, the app is vegan first and promotes a plant-based diet overall.

Restaurant options:

  • “All vegan” - Vegan restaurants

  • “Vegan options” - Restaurants that have vegan options

  • “Make it vegan” - Restaurants where you can make menu items vegan

App options:

  • Delivery

  • Pickup

  • Reserve a table

When the user is ready to place an order they simply select the order in their cart and proceed to the single-page checkout.

Once the order is placed the user has the option to turn notifications on and track their order in-app.

In-app tracking + home screen and in-app home page tracking notifications.

Users can use Veago to browse menus for vegan options and make reservations through the app.

Users can tap on the “reserve” button on the home page or use the drop-down menu to change the app settings.

Each restaurant that is available for reservations will have a “make a reservation” button on their page and this button will replace the “add to order” button on the menu item page.
